Age of Sigmar Beginners Guide

The Age of Sigmar is a tabletop game created by Games Workshop, same as Warhammer 40k. The difference is that it is set in a fantasy style, a realm of gods and legends. Lots of ancient magic and heroes, basically.

Age of Sigmar Overview

You’ll have players who’ll have a competing army from a specific faction. Your army will be made up of painted miniatures. You’ll have assembled these pre to playing the game.

Each army will consist of multiple ‘units’ that have a small amount to large amount of miniatures within it. You might also have siege engines or heroes and monsters too.

The rules are pretty simple (and free for the basic set of rules), so you can get started fairly easily. And it’s not too time consuming, with a small game lasting around an hour. A normal battle will probably be 2 hours+ though, so good to set aside enough time so you don’t get disappointed with not being able to conclude it.

You’ll need a decent sized area to play, which is usually four foot in length and six foot wide.

The best way to learn is to read the rulebook, start to immerse yourself in lore and find other more seasoned players to help teach you the ropes. But really, just get started and get stuck in. You’ll have a great time.

Age of Sigmar Army Types & Factions

There are four major factions to choose from with multiple armies within them:

The list above might look a bit overwhelming (there is a lot of choice!). We have beginner guides on each of those armies and factions that go through a bit of a basic about the army and some painting schemes and tips. It should be enough to get you started or at least looking into the army a bit more.
